Grand Haven Lighthouse Sunset

This is one where I headed out the door with the idea that I would shoot sunset at Grand Haven. There are two windows of time during the year when the position of the sun roughly lines up with the lighthouse pier – in September and in March. This was taken in March. I wasn’t quite sure, though, that I would get a decent shot as there wasn’t much in the way of clouds that would help provide a colorful backdrop. Instead, the sky was hazy. As the sun started getting lower in the sky, the haze took on a warm glow, however. A telephoto lens worked to compress the scene and make the sun look bigger. This is a blend of multiple images used to bring out more of the shadow detail. I liked this image so much I ordered a huge print and had it framed to put up in my dining area!
