Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse Aerial

One of my photo buddies had arranged to hire a single-engine airplane to take us over Grand Island in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. There are two lighthouses on the Island. To make it easier to get pictures, we flew with the door off! It didn’t help that I’m more than a tad afraid of heights! Our seat belts were the main protection against spilling out of the plane as we strained to take pictures. The pilot circled around each lighthouse at least a couple of times to give us more opportunities to get the shots we wanted. This is the East Channel Lighthouse, which is slowly undergoing restoration work to keep it from crumbling. It is a must-see stop for every cruise that operates out of Munising. My hair was thoroughly disheveled after the flight!
